I think animanga (and also J-drama/J-RPG) fandoms tend to have much more female character interaction than what you'd find in western fandoms. Yeah, the media tends to be more about guys and the female characters can get treated like crap, but you're also more likely to see girls talking to each other and not just about boys either, so it's easier to make the connections.

I'm not really recent with western media fandoms, but from what I can tell, it's the opposite here. Where women aren't maybe treated as bad, but they almost never interact.
