Comment Meta

Femslash Mini Meta fest was an utter fail this year. And I'm still not in a place where I could do it, so I purpose Comment Meta. And let's have it cover all things female and fannish. However you define those.

How it works

1. Post a meta topic in a top level comment. Use the subject line for the meta subject and expand as you want in the body of the comment. Or don't.

2. Repeat Step 1 for as many meta ideas as you have.

3. Comment on other meta topics.

It's kinda like a kink meme, only with meta. Feel free to browse the mini meta tag for ideas.

This is meant to be about as low pressure as it comes. Feel free to write on your own journal/Tumblr/blog and link back here. Respond with as little or as much as you want. This post will remain open indefinitely, so please track it if that makes things easier for you.

I don't watch White Collar. Too many dudes for me. But I would be highly interested and grateful if, amidst the squee, there could be ladycentric White Collar fic recs.

I'm not at my home computer which has all my bookmarks, but here's some to get you started.

Elizabeth:

Monday's Child by [personal profile] sholio: AU- the one in which Neal meets Elizabeth first. (El/Neal)

Survivor by [personal profile] sholio: This isn't how Elizabeth planned her vacation: stranded in the woods with a badly injured husband, below-freezing temperatures, and a killer in pursuit, her nearest ally -- Neal -- a hundred miles away at the other end of a cell phone. Written for the Girl Saves Boy Ficathon on LJ (and also to fill the "stranded/survival scenario" square on my hc_bingo card). (Gen, with canon El/Peter)

Lies That Set You Free by [personal profile] frith_in_thorns: Elizabeth gets a ransom demand for Peter and Neal. She also gets severely underestimated. (Spoilers through S3. Gen with canon El/Peter)

Bruised, Not Beaten by [personal profile] sahiya: Sometimes PTSD doesn't look like PTSD. (S3 spoilers. Gen with El/Peter)

Kate:

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by [livejournal.com profile] florastuart: The sharks have been behind them for months, now. (Kate/Neal)

Penelope Weaving by [livejournal.com profile] florastuart: She’s never liked chess, and this is chess played in the dark and blindfolded, and all the pieces are broken glass. Kate’s POV of season 1. (Kate/Neal)

Something Spectacular by [livejournal.com profile] lionessvalenti: When Neal tells Kate of his true identity, she's not sure if Neal Caffrey is someone she wants to know, but he's out to prove that he's the one for her. (Kate/Neal. Less focused on Kate than the others, but still a nice look at her.)

A Thousand Lovers and Me by Misura: It's quite probably the second best year of Kate's life. (Kate, Neal and Mozzie in the early days) (Kate/Neal)

Sara:

The Ties That Bind by [personal profile] sahiya: How Sara Ellis became part of Neal Caffrey's family. (Neal/Sara)

Something Comfortable by [personal profile] sahiya: Sara considers herself competent in any number of areas - including two forms of martial arts, three languages, and the circumvention of the most common high-end security systems - but she's never been good with vulnerability. In fact, one might say she's allergic to it. (Sara/Neal)

Backwards, In Heels by [personal profile] sholio: Six months after Neal gets back from the islands, Sara decides to take matters into her own hands (Early S4 spoilers. Neal/Sara)

Yes, Miss Shepard by [livejournal.com profile] lionessvalenti: After the case is over, Sara goes to see Shepard to pay for everything she'd done. (S4 spoilers. Sara/Landon Shephard, explicit)

Girl on the Side by [livejournal.com profile] lionessvalenti: Girl meets boy. Boy is in relationship with two other people. Girl and boy try to make it work. (Sara/Neal, Peter/El/Neal)

Diana:

Breakout by [personal profile] sholio: For 10Tropes - "Kicking Ass in All Her Finery". Bad guys tend to underestimate Diana, especially when she's wearing a cocktail dress and high heels. That's their first (and last) mistake. (Gen)

Safety First by [personal profile] sholio: The package was sitting on Diana's desk when she walked through the glass doors of the White Collar unit (Diana/Christie)

this is the story of the boys who loved you by [personal profile] frith_in_thorns: You don't put your feelings in the report. (Gen. Trigger warnings for consent issues)

The Never We've Been Told Before by [personal profile] frith_in_thorns: "They wouldn't let me go to Prom." (Gen with Diana/OFC)

I Am Not A Damsel In Distress (and I have been fighting the good fight) by [personal profile] elrhiarhodan: Four things that Charlie taught Diana about life and how to live it. (Mostly gen with Diana/OFC and Diana/Christie)

June:

Fool's Gold by [livejournal.com profile] florastuart: Sometimes the real thing is overrated. (Gen)

Keep your memories (but keep your powder dry too) by [livejournal.com profile] florastuart: June has been a lookout and a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on and a getaway driver; now when nothing else is left she knows how to hold the retreat. (Gen)
princessofgeeks: Ellen from Slings and Arrows, smiling and looking over her shoulder. Icon is all shades of orange. (Ellen by Curtana)

A few more now that I'm home.

June:

Vigil by Amadi: She keeps watch, because that's what she does, and what she expects. (Gen)

I've known too many men with too many faces (But there's always room for one more) by CaptainJacq: June's never been a lone sheep in the middle of a wolf pack. What would any She-Wolf do but pick up the lost little puppy she finds one day? Season One from June's POV, because she's BAMF and totally adopted Neal like a lost little puppy. (Gen)

Diana:

For the Record by CaptainJacq: Sometimes it might be better to think before you act. Neal's never been one to stop and think when there's a friend on the line. But that's the thing about hindsight. (Gen)

Multiple:

Stakes of the game by storiesfortravelers: For a prompt from Y at the Awesome Ladies of WC comm: A ladies' poker night with June, El, Sara, and Cindy (June's older granddaughter), getting a little cutthroat. (Gen)
leonie_alastair: B/W Avedon captures a model w/umbrella in midair leaping over a puddle (Default)

How do I describe my love for Elizabeth Burke? She is competent, she is witty. She finds her husband's foibles amusing without mocking him or their relationship. She gets to lose her temper and not apologize. She looks amazing in her work suits and better in jeans and a messy ponytail (I admit it I'm shallow).

Elizabeth! Yes, everything you say is true.

A lot of procedurals have "the wife" who is there to be symbol of the male protagonist's home and family. If she's presented sympathetically, then she's a melancholy reminder of everything the hero wants, but must sadly put aside in pursuit of his duty. If she's presented unsympathetically, then she's a shrew who reveals how put upon our brave hero is.

Elizabeth Burke is not "the wife." She is her own person, with her own life and her own personality. I love her.

i'll bite. :)

i don't OT3 very often, but when I do it's for Elizabeth, Neal, and Peter. Elizabeth is sexy, smart, secure in herself. she has a career that she enjoys. she and Peter don't have kids but (so far) there's been no baby angst. they are also well-matched and happily married- i love drama as much as the next person, but sometimes it's really nice to see a marriage where two people clearly love and respect each other on tv.

Diana: hot. smart. ambitious. fabulous. also subverts the whole "lesbians just wanna get married and have babies trope."

June: so awesome i can't even begin. can she adopt me?
magibrain: Peter Burke would like to know where you are at all times. (White Collar)

[personal profile] magibrain 2013-06-12 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Diana! Words cannot adequately convey how much I gleed at discovering a badass gay woman of color who was not defined or tokenized as any of those things, and whose orientation wasn't played for angst or subverted to show how sexy and charming our main character was, and who gets a relationship full of respect, warm affection, and sharp wit with her boss, and a relationship full of understated rules and boundaries and testing of those boundaries and the occasional edge of wariness and yet still full of good-natured sibling-ish jostling and sparring and respect and care and having-each-others'-backs with the con man whose fallen into her team, and who has adorable fannish gleefits over things like modern weaponry and body armor, and who, when the Damsel In Distress card gets played on her in Need To Know, stays cool and collected and in control and rescues her damn self but still appreciates the backup when it arrives.

Every time she shows up, I just want to draw hearts all over the screen.

Everything about this is true! Right down to the sparkly hearts.

Diana: Aw, you were worried.
Peter: Well, not about you. I was worried about what you would do to him.

DIANA FOR PRESIDENT.
