A link that might be of interest: for Pride Month this year, toastystats on AO3 put together a light analysis of AO3 F/F works.

It's interesting to see what's up there -- I didn't expect to know any of the band RPF type fandoms, but I had no idea Naruto had a significant F/F presence and had never even heard of fandoms like Mamamoo or Holby City.

I did eyebrow a bit at counting nonbinary characters on the grounds of "voiced by female actors", but I only recognized the Steven Universe characters (who are canonically woman-aligned).

Ooo, those stats are interesting! I've heard of most of those fandoms/ships, but I'm also not in most of those fandoms so I haven't read those fics.

I'm glad there was "active fandoms with the highest % F/F" and not just "fandoms with the most F/F" since size of that fandom itself can skew numbers, and that's when Ocean's 8 and The Devil Wears Prada appeared. I'm surprised that Carol/Maria (or any femslash ship from Captain Marvel...okay, Captain Marvel in general) doesn't appear on the "active fandoms with the highest % F/F" and only appears on "active F/F ships in the past year." For some reason, I'd thought it'd be a lot bigger than that.

I just realized I didn't see any ships from, or the fandom itself, from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. That fandom is filled with femslash, though maybe because it's not that big of a fandom, it didn't make much of a blip in the numbers.

I have some sympathy for toasty here: they're just listing ships that other people categorised as f/f, and making a note that not all the characters are actually binary gendered women. I'm not sure how I'd handle that myself. It makes sense to exclude any ships about binary gendered men, but there's no neat line between those non binary characters who identify closely enough with women that it makes sense to classify their relationships as f/f, and those who don't.

Thanks for linking the F/F analysis. I wish there was one that analysed femslash fandoms by kudos (that would be interesting).

If you've never heard of Mamamoo, they're a korean girl group that are a little more open to skinship so the ships sail themselves, as they say. ^^; They know about the ships, and often play into them.

Here's an introduction guide to Mamamoo. Edit: Oh and they're really great live. Here's a live stage singing compilation.

Always fun to check out these stats!

It's a shame there's no clean way to track on FFN. Aside from the obvious issue that searching "yuri" is going to get results from fandoms who have characters named Yuri, some of the hits are going to be for fics with things like "not a femslash fic" in the summary.
